- Sept 4, 2026Absentee (mail) ballots began going out to voters who requested one.
- Oct 20, 2026Deadline to request an absentee ballot — 5:00 p.m.
- Oct 15 – Oct 31In-person early voting. Ends 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct 31. Same-day registration is available during early voting only.
- Nov 3, 2026Election Day. Polls are open across Cumberland County.

Four steps
Make a plan
Check your registration
Confirm you’re registered at your current address using the NC Voter Search. It takes about a minute. If you’ve moved within the county, your polling place may have changed.
Pick how you’ll vote
By mail, during early voting, or in person on Election Day. If you’re not registered yet, early voting is your best option — it’s the only time you can register and vote on the same day.
Bring photo ID
North Carolina requires photo ID to vote in person, and a photocopy with a mail-in ballot. Most people already have an accepted ID; free IDs are available from your county board of elections.
Go all the way down the ballot
This is the step people miss. County races sit below the federal and state contests, and that’s where down-ballot campaigns are won and lost. Plenty of voters stop before they reach the Board of Education.
Keep going until you find it — and remember you may pick three.
